Registration Requirements

Academic Qualification Requirements
 
Applicant must possess any one of the following qualifications (as gazetted):
 
(a)
A local TCM diploma from the 6-year part-time or 3-year full-time TCM course conducted by the following TCM institutions:
 
(i) Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine;
(ii) Institute of Chinese Medical Studies; or
   
(b)
A graduation certificate from the 5-year full-time graduate course in TCM conducted by the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine; or
   
(c)
A 5-year full-time bachelor degree in TCM from one of the following 6 TCM institutions from the People’s Republic of China:
 
(i) Beijing TCM University;
(ii) Chengdu TCM University;
(iii) China Academy of TCM;
(iv) Guangzhou TCM University;
(v) Nanjing TCM University;
(vi) Shanghai TCM University.

Other Requirements
   
 
In addition to academic qualification requirements, applicant must also fulfil any of the following requirements:
   
(a)
Singaporeans with recognised foreign TCM qualifications
   
 
i) Applicants with valid registration certificate and practising certificate from the country of practice and current certificate of good standing (within 3 months from date of issue):
   
 
Must complete 1 year of TCM practice under conditional registration and supervision at an approved local TCM establishment;
   
 
ii) Applicants with no valid registration certificate and practising certificate:
   
 
Must complete one year of supervised clinical attachment (including not less than 400 hours of structured TCM clinical training) at an approved local TCM educational institution.
   
(b)
Foreigners (including permanent residents) with recognised TCM qualifications
   
 
Applicant must have valid registration certificate and practising certificate from the country of practice and current certificate of good standing (within 3 months from date of issue); show proof of potential employment as a TCM physician to practise TCM in Singapore; have at least 8 years of TCM clinical experience at approved TCM institutions in the country of practice and holds the appointment of "Deputy Head Physician" (副主任医师); complete at least 3 years of TCM clinical attachment under conditional registration at an approved local TCM institution.
   
(c)
Applicants with outstanding TCM skills and expertise
 
Applicant must have valid registration certificate and practising certificate from country of practice and current certificate of good standing (within 3 months from date of issue); have outstanding TCM skills and expertise recognised by the TCM Practitioners Board; have at least 15 years of TCM clinical experience at approved TCM institution(s) in the country of practice, with at least 5 years as "Head Physician" (主任医师); show proof of potential employment as TCM physician to practise TCM in Singapore. Such applicant will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Requirements of approved local TCM education institutions / TCM establishments employing registered persons under conditional registration
 
 
Approved local TCM educational institutions refer to:
   
 
(a) Singapore College of TCM; and
 
(b) Institution of Chinese Medical Studies
   
 
Approved local TCM establishments refer to TCM clinics meeting the following requirements:
   
 
(a)
Each individual TCM clinic under the TCM establishment (if the TCM establishment has more than one clinic) must have at least 3 TCM physicians under full registration; and
 
(b)
Each individual TCM clinic must have at least one TCM physician-in-charge to be responsible for the supervision/assessment of TCM physicians on conditional registration:
 
 
(i) The TCM physician-in-charge must be on full registration, possess qualifications recognised by the Board and with at least 15 years of local practice experience;
 
(ii) One TCM physician-in-charge can only supervise one TCM physician on conditional registration under category 2(a)(i) at any one time and cannot supervise TCM physician(s) on conditional registration under categories 2(b) and/or 2(c) simultaneously.

Singapore TCM-physicians Registration Examination (STRE)
 
 
All applicants meeting the above requirements are required to pass the STRE conducted by the TCM Practitioners Board before they can be considered for full registration.
